The BEST diet??
With all the different diet options out there, PLUS all of them claiming to be the best one for you, which one do you choose?? Do you go with the diet that your friend tried? Do you choose the most extreme, or the most well known?
What if I told you that they could all be right, but... right for who? Each person is completely different when it comes to nutritional needs, nutritional goals, taste, food preferences, etc. This means that some people may want to eat vegan because it matches up with their values, while some people may choose to eat low glycemic diet because they are worried about blood sugar. Everyone has different goals, and different preferences in regards to how and what they eat. So depending on what your goals and values are, you may be drawn to specific diets more than others.
This also goes along with diets such as Keto (which is getting more and more popular) where people eat a high fat and low carbohydrate diet. This diet is based on your body can using fat as fuel. While this is not my personal style of eating (my body responds well to higher amounts of carbs than fats), it works really well for some people. Many people have found huge success eating this way, and don't see any negative side effects.
Another "diet" style that is gaining popularity is intermittent fasting. This is when you only eat for about 8 of the 24 hours each day. There again are many people who eat this way for years, get great results, and feel amazing when eating this way.
There is also diets like Atkins where you eat very low carbs, or the Mediterranean Diet, Dash Diet, South Beach Diet, Jenny Craig, etc. All of these diets have multiple testimonials and clients with large success using their diet systems. With all these different types of diets available, and all claiming to be the best, how do you decide?
I will let you in on a secret, there is no such thing as a right or wrong diet, but only a right or wrong diet for you. The BEST diet is always the diet that you can make a lifestyle out of. No matter which way you prefer to eat, it will only be effective if you are consistent. This means that if you cannot see yourself continuing to eat that way for the next 5-10 years then it is not right for you.
This is why so many people had success using that specific diet, they stuck to it. Now, for how long after their "After" picture they maintained this lifestyle we have no idea... But the results came from consistency and hard work no matter what they ate.
Lifestyle eating is key to real and lasting health and fitness. It's not enough to be able to control your diet for a month and hope to have a 6 pack for the rest of your life. We all know that is not possible and not realistic to think that way.
My personal diet style is very realistic. The way that I choose to eat is by setting up a meal plan around my allotted macros and calorie needs. I usually eat similar foods each day, and then if something comes up (like lunch with friends, or a special treat) I then adjust the rest of my day as I need to. This is the simplest, easiest and best way I've found to create a maintainable eating pattern for me and my goals.
If you are miserable with your current diet, or dreading the "new diet", then you have not found the right plan for you. Again, the BEST diet is one you can follow and maintain for a LONG period of time. It has to become a lifestyle. This is the only true way that you can be happy, healthy, and fit.
This may not be easy for you to choose, and you may even try a few different approaches before you find your niche, but once you find what works for you, stick with it, and you will see great results!!
